Workshop 1: Harmony, Voice & Rhythm

Facilitated by Linda Marr

Uncover your voice – or reawaken it! Share the joy of learning songs and being part of a choir with a focus on harmony, voice production and rhythm. Learn vocal warm-ups, vocal technique, voice maintenance and how to sing as a group.  Singing together in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere not only makes us feel good, but it’s good for us!

Workshop 2: Reading Music

Facilitated by Roma Jenner

Do you look at a piece of music and wonder how to decode all those mystifying dots and squiggles? Do you puzzle over the seemingly secret messages conveyed through musical terms? During this session, Roma will teach the fundamentals of reading music, exploring the notes, symbols and dynamics that are used as a communication tool by composers of music.

Workshop 3: African Choral Singing

Facilitated by Stuart Davis

A lot of the popular music we listen to today has its origins in Africa. Blues, jazz, gospel, rock n roll, salsa, mamba, rumba, reggae and hip-hop are deeply rooted in African rhythms. In this workshop, we will sing some African songs and find out what makes this music so joyful and intoxicating.
