Simon Nicholls has an interest in cinema, often painting 1990s video stores populated with famous film couples. His local landscapes capture views seen from train journeys between Campbelltown and Revesby. Simon’s extensive travels continue to inspire his drawings—from restaurant cabaret performers, Hawaiian beach scenes, Los Angeles motorways and River Nile sunsets. He enjoys studying at the National Art School and TAFE to expand his technical skills.

In 2025, Simon was a finalist in the Hazlehurst Works on Paper Award, the Eckersley’s Art & Craft Prize, Change and Hope Exhibition Sydney University. Simon’s work appeared in 'Bobby’s Container in The Key Under the Mat' by Mike Hewson at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. In 2023, Simon won the Traditional Award at the Fisher’s Ghost Art Prize.
