Campbelltown Arts Centre is excited to offer the Drama Artist Intensive Package with Natalie Rose, inclusive of a 2 hour in-school dance workshop with artist Natalie Rose, followed by a school matinee performance of ‘My First and Last Solo’. This immersive experience is open to schools in South West Sydney and ideal for groups of students studying Drama or extra-curricular performing arts groups.

A live performance of ‘My First and Last Solo’, at Campbelltown Arts Centre, followed by a Q&A with the artists. 

In School Drama Workshop with Natalie Rose

Grades: Drama Students in Years 9–12 

Workshop Overview: In the lead up to the performance of ‘My First and Last Solo’, students have the opportunity to work directly with celebrated artist Natalie Rose in a hands-on, in-school workshop. Natalie Rose’s workshop invites students into the creative process behind ‘My First and Last Solo Show’. Designed for Years 9–12, this practical theatre-making workshop explores devising through improvisation, writing and ensemble collaboration. Drawing on over 20 years of experience creating original performance works in Australia and internationally, Natalie guides students through a series of creative tasks that generate performance material from ideas, images and personal responses. Aligned with senior drama curriculum approaches to devised and collaborative theatre, students will experiment with improvisation, creative writing and group-devised exercises that reveal how ideas move from rehearsal room to stage. The workshop highlights the joy, surprise and discovery that come from creating theatre together. 

Workshop Requirements: A large space at your school is required for the workshop.

Each In-School Drama Workshop booking (above) includes tickets to the ‘My First and Last Solo’ school matinee performance plus a post-show Q+A, at CAC on Friday 18th September 1.00pm - 2.30pm.

Performance Overview: ‘My First and Last Solo Show’ is an intimate and funny performance piece that explores the complexities of mother-daughter relationships. Created by Natalie Rose and her daughter Mabelle, this show deep dives into their relationship – uncovering the joy, frustration, understanding and unconditional love between them – and looks at the effects of intergenerational family relationships. They tell stories that are relevant to all theatregoers shared through monologues, stand-up comedy, lectures, dance, and movement, and make use of personal photographs, home videos, skill-sharing (roller skating!), memories and new perspectives. Whether you are a mother or have a mother, these exchanges will make you reflect on your own relationships with family and how they have evolved over time (regardless of the complexity or status of those relationships). Natalie and Mabelle are also collaborating with peers Clare Britton, Clare Grant, Emma Saunders, and Jodee Mundy to develop the final script and performance. 

Cost: $300 per school group booking (Max 25 students)
