Make Her: ‘Follow your dreams, they know the way’ with Kelcie Bryant-Duguid
Cost: $50 pp minimum 8 people.
Ages: 16+
No matter your experience or skill level, creativity is for every woman. If you’ve been longing for a creative community, 'Make Her' might be the perfect place for you.
Folklore is woven with tales of resilient women who defy fate, outwit oppressors, and shape the world with their wisdom and courage. Join Macarthur artist Kelcie Bryant-Duguid for a whimsical workshop exploring our stories through printing motifs and creating textile inspired designs. Featured as this year’s ‘Focus’ artist, Kelcie works across disciplines with primary focus on encaustic mixed media and textiles including wearable art.
Bryant-Duguid portrays women as active participants in their own destiny who rely upon their skills, knowledge, and wisdom when navigating the world. She draws upon folktales and storybook narratives to reposition the ‘damsel in distress’ trope in a new light. In doing so, the ‘helpless beauty needing to be rescued’ is transformed, the female archetype is challenged, and her story retold.
